• Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Apr. 2019 - Mar. 2022, 19K00447, Women's Art of Dying in Modern England, Miwa Saito, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Nara Women's University, 1170000, 900000, 270000, In early modern Europe, ‘ars moriendi,’ or the art of dying was, as Philippe Aries states, “replaced by an art of living.” The study aimed to research how people in seventeenth-century England had prepared for death in their daily lives, especially focusing on women in pregnancy or in bereavement. Childbirth and the death of a spouse would provide good, if painful, occasions for a woman to meditate on her own death. While a pregnant woman, realizing the danger of death in childbirth, left wills or advice books for her unborn child, a widow faced her own death in the process of mourning over the death of her husband. • 萌芽研究, 2004 - 2006, 16652045, 外国語力の長期保持に繋がる学習要因の解明に関する研究, 田浦 秀幸; 齋藤 美和; 羽藤 由美; J Augustine; 吉川 敏博; 植松 茂男; 小泉 博一, 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 3200000, 3200000, 研究1年目に英語力推移測定に適したツールを選定し、2年目に被験者(n=17)の卒業前の英語力を、3年目に同じ被験者から卒業1年後のデータを収集し分析した。データ収集には卒業前の英語力による群分け用にTOEICを、2/3年目にはスピーキングタスク(Mayerのfrog story)・ライティングタスク(TOWL-3)・スピーキングテスト(PhonePass)を用いた。流暢さ・ライティング力・語彙力の面から61変数対象に分析した結果、(1)卒業時上位群(>TOEIC800点)はTOWL-3/PhonePassや発話時の語数/分の保持が高かった、(2)下位群(<500)は他群が保持を示したタスク(TOWL-3)でも低下を示した、(3)中位群はタスクにより上位群の傾向を示したりまた下位群と同じ傾向を示す時があった。つまり教室環境で学習された英語力の保持には2閾値があり、上の閾値はTOEIC800点レベルで、これに到達すると卒業後の低下は非常に緩やかであるが、TOEIC500点にも満たないで卒業すると下の閾値以下であり、低い英語力が更に容易に低下する。両閾値間に位置する中位群は、確固とした力がまだ付いておらずタスクにより保持と低下の揺れが非常に大きいと仮説を立てることが出来た。
  次に全データを回帰木分析した結果、卒業前のスピーキングタスク時に十分なK1(1000語)レベルの語彙数があれば、余裕が出来るためかポーズの頻度が低く長さも短く、発音にも十分気を付けられることがわかった。このような傾向を持つ被験者は卒業後1年経過しても、K1以上レベルの語彙想起も容易にできるので、ライティング時には基本的句読法や文法、スピーキング時には物語の構成に十分注意を払え、それによりポーズ率も低く流暢さを保持できていた。即ち、卒業前にいかにK1レベルのtypeとtokenの産出が容易に行われているか(ライティング・スピーキングともに)が、卒業1年後の英語産出能力の保持率を決定する大きな要因であるこが示唆された。, kaken

  First, Greek and Roman philosophical view on suicide and Early Church Fathers' theological writings are analyzed. Next, Christian attitude toward suicides reflected on the canon laws declared by Medieval Church Councils are examined.
  Based on the analysis, the research showed how Renaissance Britain deals with the issue of suicide. The documents which are treated here include Medieval Mystery plays, Morality plays, dramatic writings of the Renaissance period, Thomas More's writing, the biography of Spiera, Italian Catholic convert, and anonymous broadsheets and broadsides ballads.
  Consequently it is proved that Christian world was very much concerned about the problem of suicide, but also intolerant toward the issue of suicide.
  In order to promote the research, the members have been to the Bodleian Library, Oxford University and the British Library to collect materials. They attended the International Utopian Studies Conference held in Canada, and the International Conference on the Seventeenth Century held in Britain related to the subject so that they could see the trend on this issue in the academic world.
  The result of the research was published in book-form, in February, 2005 entitled European Views oh Suicide : chiefly in Renaissance England., kaken
