- Refereed, Japanese Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Japanese Group Dynamics Association, Who hold higher risk perception and anxiety toward COVID-19? Focusing on gender, age and media exposure, Kaori Ando; Hiroki Takehashi; Yusuke Umegaki; Rina Tanaka, The present study examined the determinants of risk perception and anxiety toward COVID-19, which is a new threat for human beings. As determinants, we focused on the effects of gender, age, and media exposure. The present study was conducted online, which obtained 1555 valid responses. The results showed that women consistently perceived higher risk and had higher anxiety toward COVID-19. As for age groups, risk perception was higher in 60s, but there was no difference in anxiety, while estimations of the probability of infection was highest among 60s. Obtaining information from the television and online news was related with risk perception whilst obtaining information from SNS was related with anxiety. An optimism bias was also observed in the present study. The present study found that the risk perception of COVID-19 differs depending on gender and age. The results suggested that we should consider these differences in risk communication of COVID-19., 2022, 62, 1, 12, 24, Scientific journal, 10.2130/jjesp.2102

- Not Refereed, SAGE Publications, What causes the difference in mean structures between online and paper-and-pencil administrations?: Examination using the Self-report Depression Scale, Naoya Todo; Yusuke Umegaki, Due to the many advantages of online surveys, many researchers are
taking advantage of this survey method. Although for many psychological instruments, previous
studies have shown that online and paper-and-pencil administration formats have
equivalent results, other studies have shown that some online surveys result in
different score distributions from those observed through paper-and-pencil
administration. In this study, we conducted surveys using Zung’s
self-report depression scale (SDS) to Japanese undergraduates both online and
through paper-and-pencil and examined whether there are differences between different
administration formats only in the scale’s mean structures and, if so, why the
difference occurs. Analysis results showed that
there was the difference only in mean structures. Results also implied that
the online administration format lowers item thresholds; this decrease would
cause the difference between the two formats’ mean structures. Finally, we think
about the future directions of this research; to examine whether similar
results would be seen in other scales, other countries, and other generations., Mar. 2021, Technical report, 10.31124/advance.14332979.v1 - Not Refereed, Bulletin of the Nara Women's University Clinical Psychology Center, Common factors and specific factors of psychotherapy: Factors that bring about psychotherapeutic change (In Japanese), Mar. 2021, 8, 43, 49

- Grant-in-Aid for Challenging Research (Exploratory), Jun. 2022 - Mar. 2025, 22K18560, in prep, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Challenging Research (Exploratory), Keio University, 6240000, 4800000, 1440000,
, kaken - Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Apr. 2021 - Mar. 2024, 21K03054, Development and feasibility-testing of rumination-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy therapists' manual, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Keio University, 4160000, 3200000, 960000,
, kaken - Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Apr. 2021 - Mar. 2024, 21K03045, Implementation of evidence-based rumination-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy, Umegaki, Y, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Nara Women's University, 4030000, 3100000, 930000, 本研究課題は、反芻焦点化認知行動療法(RFCBT;Watkins, 2016)の我が国での実践を促進するため、(a)効果尺度の検討、(b)実践における課題の検討、(c)普及活動の促進を行うものである。
, kaken - Grant-in-Aid for Early-Career Scientists, Apr. 2018 - Mar. 2021, 18K13348, Research on "common factors" of psychotherapy in cognitive and behavioral therapies, Yusuke Umegaki, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Early-Career Scientists, Nara Women's University, 2340000, 1800000, 540000, This project aimed to investigate the effects of common and specific factors of psychotherapy among cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and what proportion of both factors maximizes its effectiveness. First, I investigated the effectiveness and participant experiences of a rumination-focused CBT (RFCBT) self-help program. Adopting a mixed-methods design, this study suggested that while some benefit from learning specific factors, others may have found it difficult, and some elements of therapy may be better delivered in a mixture of specific and common factors (Umegaki et al., in press). Based on these results and discussion, translation of the RFCBT therapist manual is under way. Further, comparative investigations following discussions with collaborators with other theoretical backgrounds (Morita Therapy, counselling psychology) were conducted (Umegaki, 2021; Umegaki & Minami, 2020; Umegaki et al., 2019)., kaken
- Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), Apr. 2015 - Mar. 2018, 15K17295, Development and evaluation of an Internet-based self-help program for prevention and treatment of depression and anxiety, Yusuke Umegaki, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), Nara Women's University, 3900000, 3000000, 900000, The findings of the present research project are as follows. First, following a review of past studies, it was suggested that Internet-based self-help programs may facilitate actual help-seeking behavior (Umegaki, 2016). Second, a cognitive-behavioral therapy self-help program targeting rumination and worry (risk factors for depression and anxiety) was developed, and its preventive effect was examined. Although we are still in the middle of the follow-up data collection process at May 2018, analyses of interview data collected from program completers indicated that “learning new coping strategies” and “self-analysis and self-understanding” were achieved through the program (Umegaki, Matsuoka, Iwagaki, and Higuchi, 2018)., url
- Grant-in-Aid for Research Activity Start-up, Aug. 2014 - Mar. 2015, 26885049, Development and evaluation of an Internet-based self-help program for depression and anxiety, Yusuke Umegaki, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Research Activity Start-up, Nara Women's University, 1430000, 1100000, 330000, , kaken
, kaken
