  • Not Refereed, The Japanese journal of psychology, 公益社団法人 日本心理学会, Reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the Grit Scale, Takehashi Hiroki; Higuchi Osamu; Ozaki Yuka; Watanabe Takumi; Toyosawa Junko, <p>Grit refers to a non-cognitive trait that is characterized by perseverance and passion for long-term goals. In this study, we developed a Japanese version of the Grit Scale and examined its reliability and validity. A confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the Japanese version of the Grit Scale had two factors corresponding to the original version (study 1, 2, and 3). The results indicated that the scale has high reliability (study 1 and 3). Grit was positively correlated with conscientiousness (study 2 and 3) and self-control (study 3). Nonetheless, grit demonstrated predictive validity of longitudinal persistence and success measures over conscientiousness, self-control, and intellectual ability (study 3). These results are consistent with previous studies and support the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the Grit Scale.</p>, 2018

  • Refereed, 学校危機とメンタルケア, 大阪教育大学学校危機メンタルサポートセンター, Elementary School Children's Risk Perception of Earthquakes: Comparison between Fifth Grade Elementary School Children and University Students, 豊沢 純子; 元吉 忠寛; 竹橋 洋毅; 野田 理世, The purpose of this research was to clarify the characteristics of child's risk perception on earthquakes and to extract the points to be noticed when conducting disaster education at school. Fifth grade elementary school students (N=26) and university students (N=30) were shown the illustration of 4 scenes and asked to describe the potential dangers of earthquakes and the way to protect them in each scene. The result indicated that elementary school children's risk perception were (1) less multifaceted understanding of the situation, (2) lower self-involvement, (3) less consideration of probability and severity of damage than university students. Eighty-five schoolchildren attended the class using this material twice, and did homework with their parents. Before and after the class, they answered the questionnaire to measure their learning effect (attitude toward subjective behavior, motivation toward disaster prevention action in cooperation with parents: both 3 items) and their evaluation of the class (3 items).The results generally indicated that their attitude of subjective behavior, and their motivation toward disaster prevention action was higher after the education, and their evaluation of class were high. These results generally showed the effectiveness of this material. In future studies, generalizability of these results should be examined., 2016, 7, 49, 59

  • Refereed, Japanese Journal of Social Psychology, The Japanese Society of Social Psychology, Factors that collate with speed and accuracy in police calls for service: Experimental examination in the simulated scene, Toyosawa Junko; Takehashi Hiroki, This study examined the relationship between speed and accuracy in police calls for service, verbal behavior (listener, communicator), and communication structure (adjacency pairs, turn-taking). Forty participants were randomly assigned to either the role of reporter or police officer, and asked to communicate based on a scenario of snatching by using the mobile phone. The results showed that verbal behavior were positively correlated with accuracy and negatively correlated with speed. Communication structure were positively correlated with accuracy and not correlated with speed. However, adjacency pairs were positively related with speed accuracy. Hoogland; Hiroki Takehashi; Koji Murata, In three experiments, we provide evidence that resource divisibility and expectations of sharing influence the degree to which envy arises in response to another's superior resources. We manipulated the resource divisibility (e.g., 2 coins worth approximately $5.50 each vs. a single note worth approximately $11) and expectations of sharing were measured (Experiments 1 and 2) and manipulated (Experiment 3). Findings in these three experiments supported our hypothesis that envy would be most strongly experienced in response to others who had highly divisible resources that participants did not believe would be shared.   • Refereed, Stress Science Research, Public Health Research Foundation, The effect of educational intervention on ability of self-control in a correspondence upper secondary school, Takehashi Hiroki; Toyosawa Junko, This study examined the effect of educational intervention on ability of self-control. Ten participants in a correspondence upper secondary school took a class about ability of self-control and were asked to engage self-control training that they straighten themselves up for two months. Before and after the training, the participants were asked to indicate intentions of eight types of self-control behaviors. Result indicated that post rating of self-control intention was higher than pre rating of it. Moreover, there found positive correlation between amount of training and increase of self-control intention. To consider the way to raise the speed and correctness of emergency call,itis important to investigate the problems that are brought in notified settings. Based on thisissue, we visited five command and control centers in Japan, and analyzed how the emergency call was actually processed. As a result,it seemed that there was not a nationwide standardized procedure to receive a call from citizen. However, there were alot of similarities between the centers about the contents and the procedure the police deal. It might be effective to do the safety education to learn about the contents and procedure beforehand.   • Refereed, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ADVANCED ROBOTIC SYSTEMS, INTECH -OPEN ACCESS PUBLISHER, Which Robot Features Can Stimulate Better Responses from Children with Autism in Robot-Assisted Therapy?, Jaeryoung Lee; Hiroki Takehashi; Chikara Nagai; Goro Obinata; Dimitar Stefanov, This study explores the response of autistic children to a few design features of the robots for autism therapy and provides suggestions on the robot features that have a stronger influence on the therapeutic process. First, we investigate the effect of selected robot features on the development of social communication skills in autistic children. The results indicate that the toy's "face" and "moving limb" usually draw the children's attention and improve children's facial expression skills, but do not contribute to the development of other social communication skills. Secondly, we study the response of children with low-functioning autism to robots with verbal communication functionalities. Test results show that children interacted with the verbal-featured robot more intensively than with the experimenter. We conclude that robots with faces and moving limbs can engage autistic children in a better way. Obinata, Previous researches, in the field of robot assisted therapy, suggested that communications with robots encourage autistic children to have more positive reaction to the robots' behavior, and this seems to be a reliable approach to improve the social interaction and communication skills of autistic children. However, most of the researches focused on improving only some limited aspects of the autistic children's social communication problems and it is difficult to evaluate the training with current technology. Thus, in the present study, we suggest a training robot to improve the adjustability of autistic children's way of communications through touching. First, we explore three different ways of touching and compare different force levels of touching for autistic children to those for non-autistic children. As a result, non-autistic children have shown a definite pattern on the way of touching, while there is no pattern in autistic children's one. Second, we investigate the efficiency of therapy with the robot, when the robot shows its expression to a person with autism.   • Refereed, THE JAPANESE JOURNAL OF EXPERIMENTAL SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY, The Japanese Group Dynamics Association, Reciprocal effects of communication, group identification, and shared cognition in simulated gaming, Takehashi Hiroki; Karasawa Kaori, The relationships amongst within-group communication, group identification, and perception of shared cognition were examined across the time. Data was collected three times from 269 participants during a simulated society game named SIMINSOC (Simulated International Society; Hirose, 1997). Results of structural equation modeling indicated that communication within the group strengthened group identification, which further facilitated the perception of shared cognition. Further, group identification was found to facilitate communication during subsequent simulation sessions. These findings suggest a process of mutually reinforcing, reciprocal relationship between communication and group identification, and the resultant formation of strong perception of shared cognition. We discussed the impact of this reciprocation process within a group setting, which involve cooperative behavior and group polarization in decision making.

  • Refereed, Japanese Journal of Social Psychology, The Japanese Society of Social Psychology, The effect of goal framing on the automatic processing of affective information, TAKEHASHI Hiroki; KARASAWA Kaori, Guided by the regulatory focus theory (Higgins, 1997), this study examined the effects of goal framing on the subjective feeling of affect and the automatic processing of affective information. After the manipulation of goal framing (promotion focus vs. prevention focus), 32 participants were asked to indicate their affective state and to engage in a modified Stroop task. Results indicated that goal framing did not influence subjective feeling but influenced the speed of color naming in the Stroop task; participants in the prevention condition responded more slowly toward loss-related words (quiescence and agitation) than gain-related words (cheerfulness and dejection), whereas participants in the promotion condition responded toward gain-related words as slowly as toward loss-related words. These results suggest that goal framing heightens the activation of particular affective representations and the activations influence performance on a Stroop task automatically.   • Refereed, The Japanese journal of psychology, The Japanese Psychological Association, The effect of goal framing on the activation of affective representations, Takehashi Hiroki; Karasawa Kaori, Guided by regulatory focus theory, this study examined the effects of goal framing on the subjective experience of affect and the accessibility of affective representations. Study 1 examined lay persons' beliefs concerning the relationship between goal framing and certain kinds of affective experiences. The results indicated that a promotion focus was associated with happiness and disappointment, whereas a prevention focus was associated with relaxation and tension. Study 2 examined the effect of goal framing on the activation of affective representations, and found that a promotion focus activated both gain-related representations (happy and disappointment) and loss-related representations (relaxation and tension), whereas a prevention focus activated only loss-related representations. These results suggest that goal framing activates particular affective representations, and the activated affective representations may influence the interpretation of positive or negative experiences.   • Refereed, 日本公衆衛生雑誌, 日本公衆衛生学会, 私立広域通信制高校生徒の通信制高校選択に関わるストレス別に見た精神健康の関連要因, 平部正樹; 藤後悦子; 藤城有美子; 北島正人; 藤本昌樹; 竹橋洋毅, 目的 私立広域通信制高校の生徒を対象に質問紙調査を行い、通信制高校選択に関わるストレスから生徒を分類し、そのタイプごとに精神健康度に関わる要因を抽出した。方法 私立A広域通信制高校の全国11キャンパスに所属する全生徒3,888人を対象とした。調査期間は2015年10月から2016年1月であった。クラスごとの一斉ホームルーム時に、担任教員が、調査票を直接配付・回収した。調査票は、基本項目、精神健康関連項目、ライフスキル項目から構成されていた。精神健康関連項目については、通信制高校入学前のストレス、入学後のストレス、通信制高校選択に関わるストレスについて、「学業」、「友人関係」、「教師との関係」、「部活動」、「学校行事」、「家庭環境」、「健康状態」、「バイト・仕事」の8領域から尋ねた。精神健康度を計る指標として、Kessler 6(以下、K6)を用いた。結果 2,424人からの有効回答を得た(回収率、62.3%)。通信制高校入学前と入学後のストレスの変化については、男女ともに、「バイト・仕事」領域以外で入学後にストレスが低下していた。通信制高校選択に関わるストレスの8領域の得点により大規模クラスタ分析を行った結果、6群が抽出された。各群におけるK6得点に関わる要因を抽出したところ、すべての群で健康状態が強く関わっていた。加えて、学業ストレス高群、友人関係ストレス高群、家庭・健康ストレス高群については、通信制高校選択の理由となったストレスが、入学後も精神健康度の低さに結びついていた。学校関連ストレス複合群については、友人関係に加え、家庭環境が精神健康度の低さと関連していた。全ストレス高群は、とりわけ学業との関連が強かった。ライフスキルについては、ストレスマネジメントスキルや意志決定スキルの高さが精神的健康度の高さと関わっていた。結論 通信制高校生徒の精神健康度の向上のためには、そのニーズを把握し、そのタイプに応じた支援を行うこと、その際にストレスへの対処と、ライフスキルを伸ばすことが重要であることが示された。今後、通信制高校生徒への支援実践につながることが期待される。(著者抄録), 2021, 68, 6, 412, 424, Scientific journal

  • Refereed, THE JAPANESE JOURNAL OF EXPERIMENTAL SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY, The Japanese Group Dynamics Association, The psychological impacts of nudge-based evacuation advisories, Tanaka Rina; Takehashi Hiroki, This study examined the psychological effects of disaster prevention nudges. The participants (total N=1,330) read a scenario describing approaching danger with either a loss-framed evacuation advisory or a non-framed control one and reported their intentions to evacuate, feelings of guilt, and perceived external pressure (Study 1) and rated extrinsic motivational regulation (Study 2). Moreover, in Study 3 the participants were presented with the same scenario and one of three evacuation advisories (loss-framed, gain-framed, and control advisories) and indicated their behavioral intentions, feeling of guilt, perceived external pressure, and extrinsic motivation as in Studies 1 and 2. Both frames increased the participants’ intentions to evacuate, feelings of guilt, and perceived external pressure. However, their effects on extrinsic motivation differed: the loss-framed advisory enhanced all three types of extrinsic motivation, whereas the gain-frame advisory increased only identified regulation.   • Refereed, Japan Journal of Educational Technology, Japan Society for Educational Technology, Practice and Evaluation of 110 Call Training Using Live-Filming Video Materials, TOYOSAWA Junko; TAKEHASHI Hiroki, 本研究は,事件の発生状況を実写の動画で示すことによる110番通報訓練を行い,正確性と迅速性の観点から訓練効果を検討した.先行研究(豊沢・竹橋 2017)では,通報訓練を行うと1回目よりも2回目の通報の正確性と迅速性が高くなることが示されているが,事件の発生状況をイラストで示しており,現実場面との乖離が指摘されていた.そこで本研究では,より現実に近い状況である実写の動画を用いた場合にも同様の効果が生じるかを検討した.大学生65名をランダムに通報者役と警察官役に割り当て,通報者役に事件発生状況の動画を提示した後に,通報者役から警察官役に模擬的な通報を行ってもらった.さらに役割とペアを交代して,別の動画を用いて同様の通報を行ってもらった.その結果,1回目よりも2回目の通報の正確性が高くなったが,迅速性には有意な差は生じなかった.その理由として,先行研究よりも認知負荷の高い課題であったこと,犯人情報の詳細な点に注意が向いたこと,迅速性よりも正確性を優先しやすかったことなどの可能性を述べ,今後の研究のための改善点を考察した., 2022, 46, Suppl, 137, 140, 10.15077/jjet.s46074

Focusing on gender, age and media exposure, Ando Kaori; Takehashi Hiroki; Umegaki Yusuke; Tanaka Rina, The present study examined the determinants of risk perception and anxiety toward COVID-19, which is a new threat for human beings. As determinants, we focused on the effects of gender, age, and media exposure. The present study was conducted online, which obtained 1555 valid responses. The results showed that women consistently perceived higher risk and had higher anxiety toward COVID-19. As for age groups, risk perception was higher in 60s, but there was no difference in anxiety, while estimations of the probability of infection was highest among 60s. Obtaining information from the television and online news was related with risk perception whilst obtaining information from SNS was related with anxiety. An optimism bias was also observed in the present study. The present study found that the risk perception of COVID-19 differs depending on gender and age.   • Refereed, Japanese Psychological Research, A Study of the Conceptual Structure of Growth Mindsets and Their Impact on Self-Improvement Motivation, Hiroki Takehashi; Junko Toyosawa; Satoshi Shimai; Maki Yananose, This study examined the conceptual structure and motivational effects of growth mindsets based on the perspective of character strengths. An internet survey was conducted with 1,000 workers (500 males and 500 females; age range 20–59 years, M = 40.1 years, SD = 10.7 years). Participants were presented with 25 strengths (i.e., intelligence and 24 character strengths) and were asked to rate their perceived competence, growth mindset, and improvement intention for each strength. The exploratory factor analyses on perceived competence, growth mindset, and improvement intention identified five common factors: wisdom, willpower, temperance, transcendence, and groupness. Moreover, regression analyses indicated that a growth mindset was more strongly related to improvement intention than perceived competence. Furthermore, regression analyses found domain-specific effects of growth mindsets on improvement intention. Thus, the intention to improve a particular strength was more closely related to that particular growth mindset than to other growth mindsets.   • Japanese Psychological Research, Structure of Disaster Preparedness Motivation and Its Relationship with Disaster Preparedness Behaviors, Junko Toyosawa; Hiroki Takehashi; Satoshi Shimai, This study investigated the motivations related to autonomous and continuous disaster preparedness from the viewpoint of self-determination theory (SDT). Study 1 was a bottom-up investigation to capture the structure of motivation. Four hundred people who had already engaged in preparedness answered an open-ended question concerning the reason for their preparedness. After categorizing the descriptions, four distinct categories (personal significance, avoidance of negative affect, introjection of social norms, and other-oriented motivation) were extracted. Study 2 developed survey items, based on the four categories extracted in Study 1 and a conceptual definition of the theory, and examined their relationships with disaster preparedness. Five hundred and sixty people answered the questions on disaster preparedness motivation (32 items), autonomous disaster preparedness (four items), household preparedness (10 items), and continuous preparedness (10 items). Factor analysis of motivation extracted four factors (personal significance and avoidance of negative affect, introjection of social norms, intimate other-orientation, and general other-orientation). Correlation analysis showed that all motivations were positively correlated with autonomous, household, and continuous preparedness. The results contribute to extending the scope of application of SDT and to clarifying the motivations corresponding to disaster preparedness. We developed a disaster preparedness strengths karuta (paper and online versions) as a teaching tool for understanding how to use their strengths, and designed educational content so that participants could heighten the sense of utitilization of their strengths for disaster preparedness step by step through the use of the karuta and interaction with others. The results of multiple practices with undergraduates showed that their disaster preparedness increased after the study than before, and that their awareness and sense of utilization of their strengths as a component of the strengths intervention also increased. First, self-report scales were developed to assess the mindsets. Then, an experience sampling survey was administered: its results revealed that negative emotions intensified with repeated stressor perceptions in individuals with a strong stress-accumulation mindset (i.e., "stress has a tendency to accumulate”). Furthermore, an intervention experiment was conducted to strengthen the stress-reduction mindset through experimental manipulation (i.e., "stress has a tendency to pass away"), and although changes in mindset were confirmed, no effect on reducing negative emotions was demonstrated., kaken

  • 基盤研究(C), 01 Apr. 2021, 31 Mar. 2025, 21K03034, 成長マインドセットが自己制御を促進するのはなぜか?:葛藤解消と行動抑制に注目して, 雨宮 有里; 尾崎 由佳; 竹橋 洋毅; 高 史明, 日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業 基盤研究(C), 東洋大学, 4030000, 3100000, 930000, 本研究の目的は、自己制御にマインドセットがどのような影響を与えるかを調べることである。この目的のために、2021年度はマインドセットおよび、自己制御に関する海外の書籍・論文を中心に文献研究を行った。当初の目的であったデータの収集は行っていないが、研究計画として質問紙による横断的調査の計画を行っている。調査として計画しているのは、分析モデルに即した半構造化された質問である。これは、分析モデルを扱うときに必要になる比較が可能な質問を行うということである。比較は、ある事象が起きた場合と起きなかった場合の両方を尋ねる、といったやり方で可能となる。 例えば、分析モデルの(1)「葛藤を検知した」という事象の反対は、(1’)「葛藤を検知しなかった」という事象をさす。ここで、1の「葛藤を検知した」は、(1a)「潜在的な葛藤が存在した」 (1b)「潜在的な葛藤を意識が捉えた」の2つの段階に分解できる。 そのため、その反対の1’「葛藤を検知しなかった」は、(1'a)「潜在的な葛藤すら存在しなかった」(1'b)「潜在的な葛藤は存在したがそれを意識が捉えなかった」のどちらかで表せる。ここで「葛藤」というのは「何かしらの欲求が他の欲求と衝突すること」であるため、1'a「潜在的な葛藤すら存在しなかった」も、(1'a-ⅰ)「そもそも何も欲求がなかった」(1'a-ⅱ)「何かしらの欲求は存在したが、他にそれと衝突する欲求が存在しなかった」の2つの場合がある。 ただし1'a-ⅰ「そもそも何も欲求がなかった」という現象を「自己制御」の文脈で扱う必要はあまりないと考えられる。そのため、1'a「潜在的な葛藤すら存在しなかった」現象としては、1'a-ⅱ「何かしらの欲求が存在したが、それと衝突する欲求がなかった」場合を扱えばよい。このような質問でマインドセットと自己制御の関係を質問紙で明らかにする。, kaken

The efect of forming a common ground was examined by (1)preliminary learning of the procedure of report, (2)calling experience. The result showed that not only preliminary learning, but also calling experience is necessary to induce the effect. Four 3D-CG materials was developed, and interview to police was conducted to make the experimental setting closer to the actual situation. As results, activated goals in prevention focus were fewer (study 1, 2) and realistic (study 1). However, these effects seemed to be weak (study 2) and a reversal result was found by an internet survey in which the motivation to response questionnaire tended to be low (study 3). In addition, whereas under promotion focus individuals who felt cheerfulness listed more goals than those who were not, under prevention focus individuals who felt calm listed more goals than those who were not (study 3).
