• Refereed, BRITISH FOOD JOURNAL, EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LTD, Consumer loyalty towards locally certified low-input farm products, Misa Aoki, Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to reveal how a loyalty program that provides economic rewards for locally produced low-input farm products influences the consumers' behavior of repeated purchase by focussing on the consumers' motivation and characteristics. Design/methodology/approach - This study is based on data from a questionnaire survey and actual purchase data obtained from a practical study conducted in Japan. The data were analyzed using regression analysis. Findings - Consumers who gain economic rewards by purchasing locally produced low-input fresh food are not likely to purchase these products exclusively for the economic rewards of the program; rather, they do so to get safe and good quality food and to support local farmers and local farm conservation. The most remarkable finding is that the scheme that provides economic rewards makes such products more affordable for consumers from lower-income households. Originality/value - This study is of academic value and of value to policy makers and practitioners in the local food supply chain. • Refereed, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF DISASTER RISK REDUCTION, ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, The role of social capital and public policy in disaster recovery: A case study of Tamil Nadu State, India, Abhay Joshi; Misa Aoki, The objective of this research is to determine what important roles are played by social capital in the implementation of recovery policies for areas affected by disasters. We will compare two districts in India where tsunami recovery has either failed or been successful. In 2004, the Sumatra Tsunami in the Indian Ocean killed more than 14,000 people and left 50,000 people homeless. Regardless of the cultural background or ethnicity of victims, disaster recovery greatly depends on social capital. This research included a questionnaire survey administered to people in two tsunami-affected districts and compared the types of social capital that can be associated with disaster recovery. The result is that the style of each community prior to the disaster and the presence of a strong village leader are both crucial for the successful implementation of a recovery program. We believe that social capital significantly affects successful policy implementation, which will lead people to utilize government resources for disaster recovery. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. • Refereed, Environment, Development and Sustainability, Springer Netherlands, Motivations for organic farming in tourist regions: a case study in Nepal, AOKI Misa, An increasing number of individuals and businesses involved in the tourism industry have begun activities related to organic farming and organic agro-products not only in Europe and North America but also in developing countries in Asia. Both organic farming and rural tourism are considered important to socially and economically sustainable rural development. The influences on the establishment of or conversion to organic farming have been much discussed in Europe but not in developing countries. This study focuses on Nepal, where small-scale organic farming occurs in tourism areas, and qualitatively reveals the motivations for organic farming and other factors related to its adoption. It was found that the reasons for introducing organic farming practices varied with the timing of their adoption. Additionally, the kinds of organic-related activities adopted varied depending on how the individual adopter first encountered the term "organic farming." • Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Apr. 2019, Mar. 2024, 19K02295, Principal investigator, A study on consumer education for promoting ethical consumption: focusing on information quality between consumers and producers, 青木 美紗; 片上 敏喜, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Nara Women's University, 3510000, 2700000, 810000, 本研究は、持続可能な開発目標を達成するための倫理的消費を実現するために、消費者の関心が高い食の中でも、生産プロセスに複数の倫理的消費に関連する要素を併せ持っている乳製品に焦点を当て、生産側と消費者が交流できる機会において、どのような情報を企業側が提供しているのか、また消費者はどのような情報を受け取ると倫理的消費の意志を高めるのかを明らかにすることを目的している。 令和元年度は、研究初年度として、国内外における倫理的消費に関する文献収集、食品の消費に関する文献および情報収集をおこなうとともに、生活協同組合の産直先となっている乳製品メーカーへの聞き取り調査を2件実施し、参考情報を収集するために乳製品メーカー以外の食品メーカーおよび生産者グループへの調査を2件実施した。 先行研究では、有機農産物や有機食品に関する調査結果が多く、倫理的消費の対象食品として、それらのものが挙げられていることが明らかとなった。しかし、有機認証を取得していない食品であっても生産プロセスを見れば、食の安全、環境への配慮、地域貢献に貢献している食品があり、これらの食品も含めて研究調査を進める意義は大きいと考えられる。 今回調査をしたメーカーおよび企業は４件とも、中小規模の企業であり、取引先が消費者団体であることもあり、生産プロセスに関する情報提供には透明性があり、原料から加工・出荷までを、消費者に細かく情報提供していることがうかがえた。うち２件については調査報告として研究所紀要に掲載した。, kaken

• Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Apr. 2019, Mar. 2022, 19H01390, Coinvestigator, Evaluation of Maternity Policies to achieve MDG5: Demedicalization and Positive Birth Experience, 松岡 悦子; 浅田 晴久; 阿部 奈緒美; 曾 ケイエ; 青木 美紗; 五味 麻美; Hanley Sharon; 諸 昭喜; 嶋澤 恭子, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), Nara Women's University, 15600000, 12000000, 3600000, バングラデシュにおけるマタニティ政策について、政策担当者と村の女性たちの両方への調査を行った。政策担当者としては、BRAC大学の助産コース、ダッカ大学、ICDDRｂ、USAIDの研究者から妊産婦死亡率を下げるために取られたいくつかの政策について話を聞いた。 バングラデシュでは、従来TBAによる自宅分娩が中心であったが、MDG5の目標である妊産婦死亡率の低下のために、施設分娩への移行とskilled birth attendant(SBA)による介助がめざされた。施設分娩を促すためには、女性たちに現金を配布する政策（demand side financing)や助産師やFWV（Family Welfare Visitor)の養成が行われた。 また、女性の側への調査としては、マダリプル県ラジョール村を対象地域として、村の女性たち、公立病院の医師、私立病院の医師、TBA、FWV、助産師への聞き取りを行った。それによると、女性たちの多くは自宅でTBAによる介助を希望しているにもかかわらず、結果的に病院で出産することになり、その多くが帝王切開になっていた。その理由として、私立病院が患者を集めるためにブローカーを雇い、妊産婦と接触するTBAやFWV,公立病院の医師に働きかけていることがわかった。TBAは、産婦を私立病院に送ることで、自宅で取り上げるのとほぼ同じ金額を病院からもらっていた。その結果、帝王切開率が急上昇し、女性たちの産後の回復が遅れ、女性の健康が損なわれる結果となっていた。施設分娩が妊産婦死亡率を下げるとは必ずしも証明されていないにもかかわらず、バングラデシュにおいては施設分娩が強力に進められた結果、帝王切開率が増え、女性の健康にとってはマイナスの結果が生じている。 また、新型コロナ感染症が異なる文化に与える影響についてシンポジウムを開いた。, kaken;rm:presentations

• Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Apr. 2019, Mar. 2022, 19K12561, Coinvestigator, 地域の食文化を対象とした観光の形成手法と波及効果に関するアクションリサーチ, 片上 敏喜; 青木 美紗; 上野 秀剛; 加賀美 太記, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Nihon University, 4160000, 3200000, 960000, 近年、和食がユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録されたことを機に、食文化を対象とした観光が注目されている。食文化は、地域固有の風土に根ざした食材、道具、調理法、食べ方などから構成され、地域の観光資源として機能する。しかし、観光を通して食文化が人々の生活にどのように溶け込み、存続・変遷するのか、という相互作用を明らかにした研究はない。そこで本研究では、食文化を対象とした観光活動を「食文化観光」と定義し、多様な研究視角から分析を試みることを目的としている。 初年度となる2019年度は、食文化と観光に関する先行研究および文献資料収集、関連学会・研究会等への参加し、様々な関連情報の収集等の調査を行った。また研究調査において、これまでの観光研究では食を対象とする場合、飲食に関する行為が主であり、対象地域のみにしか存在しない固有の食文化を捉えた観光ではないケースが多いことがわかった。一方で、観光者の食文化への関心の高まりや、訪問先となる地域の生活を実感したいというニーズがあるということについて調査を通じて捉えることができ、地域固有の歴史や文化から形成される食文化を対象とした観光活動の重要性に関して、共同研究者と詳細な検討を行うことができた。 加えて、観光活動に参加した人々の地域の食文化に対する意識や行動の変化について調査を行うため、地域の食文化に詳しいNPOの協力を得て、奈良を対象地として「食文化観光」を企画し、研究者自身が研究対象に関わりながら、実際の観光活動のあり方や参加者の変化を観察するアクションリサーチを実施した。また本アクションリサーチで得た調査データについては、取りまとめて研究誌で発表を行った。

Through questionnaire survey and interview survey targeting users of the farmers markets, most consumers purchase the crops for the purpose of getting award of loyalty program. Questions such as household members’ age, marriage status, property ownership, microcredit, reproductive experiences, time use and geographical movement for both men and women were asked. Results show that Bangladeshi villages are undergoing extensive changes due mainly to remittance from overseas work. Medical facilities such as private clinics are increasing each year bringing about medicalization of pregnancy and birth in both villages. In order to improve women’s reproductive health, it is important that women should know their own bodies as well as increase knowledge on reproduction.
