  • Refereed, Research Journal of Sport Science in Nara Women’s University, The relationship between continuous bilateral hop and basic exercise ability among young children, Continuous bilateral hop has been used to evaluate a person's agility by focusing on the movement time. In the present study, we examined the movement time as well as hopping pattern score on continuous bilateral hop, and investigated the relationship between continuous bilateral hop and basic motor ability (25-m sprint, tennis ball throwing and standing long jumping) among 131 young children aged 4 to 5 years. The movement time was significantly shorter in 5- than in 4-year-old children, but the hopping pattern score did not change with increasing age. The score was significantly higher in girls than in boys, while the movement time was significantly shorter in boys than in girls. Moreover, a significant correlation was observed between the movement time and basic motor ability (25-m sprint and standing long jumping), the score and basic motor ability (25-m sprint, tennis ball throwing and standing long jumping). These data suggest that continuous bilateral hop can be used as indexes for agility as well motor coordination in young children., 2020, 22, 1, 12, 21, Research institution, 2020_幼児における両足連続跳び越しの質的評価と基礎的運動能力との関係性の検討.pdf, False

  • Refereed, ProS One, The difference in hemodynamic responses between dominant and non-dominant hands during muscle contraction and relaxation: An fNIRS study., Yokoyama N; Ohtaka C; Kato K; Kubo H; Nakata H, The present study used functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), and investigated the differences in neural activation of ipsi- or contralateral hemispheres between right dominant and left non-dominant hands among right-handed subjects using consecutive motor tasks with muscle contraction and relaxation. The subjects performed tasks under four conditions: (1) right hand up (R-Up), (2) left hand up (L-Up), (3) right hand down (R-Down), and (4) left hand down (L-Down). The peak amplitude of oxy-Hb was significantly larger at the contralateral than ipsilateral hemisphere in the premotor area (PM) under the R-Up condition, and no significant differences were observed between contra- and ipsilateral hemispheres under the L-Up condition. In addition, the peak amplitude was more negative at the contra- than ipsilateral hemisphere in the PM under the R-Down condition, while the peak amplitude was significantly more negative at the ipsi- than contralateral hemisphere in the PM under the L-Down condition. These results suggest that the PM of the left hemisphere among right-handed subjects plays an important role in muscle contraction and relaxation with force control., 2019, 14, 7, e0215736, Scientific journal, True, 10.1371/journal.pone.0220100

  • Refereed, Annual Reports of Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences, The relationship between force control strategy and performance for force generation and relaxation, Ohtaka C, In this study, we elucidated the relationship between force control strategy andperformance for force generation and relaxation in isometric arm and leg contraction tasks.Ten participants were instructed to performed the following two tasks: (1) a generation task, wherein they increased their force from 0% maximum voluntary force (MVF) to 20% MVF(0%-20%), 40% MVF (0%-40%), or 60% MVF (0%-60%), (2) and a relaxation task, in which theydecreased their force from 60% MVF to 40% MVF (60%-40%), 20% MVF (60%-20%), or to 0%MVF (60%-0%). They were instructed to control their force as quickly as and as accurately aspossible on visual stimulus. For each task, the produced force was recorded. We used theparameters of point of accuracy (force level, error), quickness (reaction time, adjustment time, rate of force development), and strategy (force wave, rate of force development) for dataanalyses. The results were divided into two patterns by the form of each force wave.Parameters were analyzed between the patterns using a Mann-Whitney U test. The result of this study showed that the errors of the pulse width control strategywere greater than that of the pulse height and width control strategy for both generation andrelaxation task. As for adjustment time, pulse width control strategy was longer than pulseheight and pulse width control strategy for force generation, and vice versa for force relaxation. Therefore, our findings suggest that the pulse height and width control strategy wasthe superior in accuracy and quickness for force generation, while the pulse height and widthcontrol strategy was the superior in accuracy and the pulse width control strategy was thesuperior in quickness for force relaxation., 2017, 32, 63, 79, Research institution

  • Refereed, Research Journal of Sport Science in Nara Women’s University, Variation of children’s body image in the physical education: Practice of mat exercise focused on the diversity of movements, Ohtaka C; Takezawa M, In the physical education, it is important to experience the pleasure and joyfulness of movement one's own body through the variety of sports. However, especially in mat exercise, children are apt to have a poor feeling, because it is clear that the skills are success or failure. On the other hand, children are easy to feel the sense of their own body through the mat exercise. This sport is quite necessary to notice their sense of body and acquire the skill of adjustment their body. In the case that children have a poor feeling against one sport from early childhood, they are fear that they continue to be weak on that sport after that. Therefore, we need to develop the practice of mat exercise that children have experience to notice a sense of body in the physical education of elementary school. In this study, we investigated the variation of children's body image in the physical education by practicing the mat exercise focused on the diversity of movements., 2017, 19, 29, 37, Research institution, 2017_体育学習における子どもたちの身体イメージの変容_動きを広げるマット運動の授業実践から.pdf, False
  • Refereed, PERCEPTUAL AND MOTOR SKILLS, SAGE PUBLICATIONS INC, Control Strategies for Accurate Force Generation and Relaxation, Chiaki Ohtaka; Motoko Fujiwara, Characteristics and motor strategies for force generation and force relaxation were examined using graded tasks during isometric force control. Ten female college students (M age=20.2 yr., SD=1.1) were instructed to accurately control the force of isometric elbow flexion using their right arm to match a target force level as quickly as possible. They performed: (1) a generation task, wherein they increased their force from 0% maximum voluntary force to 20% maximum voluntary force (0%-20%), 40% maximum voluntary force (0%-40%), or 60% maximum voluntary force (0%-60%) and (2) and a relaxation task, in which they decreased their force from 60% maximum voluntary force to 40% maximum voluntary force (60%-40%), 20% maximum voluntary force (60%-20%), or to 0% maximum voluntary force (60%-0%). Produced force parameters of point of accuracy (force level, error), quickness (reaction time, adjustment time, rate of force development), and strategy (force wave, rate of force development) were analyzed. Errors of force relaxation were all greater, and reaction times shorter, than those of force generation. Adjustment time depended on the magnitude of force and peak rates of force development and force relaxation differed. Controlled relaxation of force is more difficult with low magnitude of force control., Oct. 2016, 123, 2, 489, 507, Scientific journal, 10.1177/0031512516664778
  • Refereed, Research Journal of Sport Science in Nara Women’s University, Analysis of the upper limb in basketball dribbling: A focus on differences in proficiency and tempo, The present study investigated the differences in upper-limb movement characteristics between basketball players and novices in a basketball dribbling task. Participants dribbled a ball while seated and were instructed to synchronize their dribble with an auditory signal. We conducted three tasks with different types of signal (80 bpm, 140 bpm and 200 bpm). During the tasks, three joint angles (elbow, forearm, and wrist) of the right upper limb were recorded by goniometers. The angular displacements in 'elbow and wrist' from the ball catching point to the highest point of rebounding ball were significantly larger in the 80-bpm task than in the 140- and 200-bpm tasks among basketball players. On the other hand, the angular displacements in 'forearm and wrist' were significantly larger in the 80-bpm task than in the 140- and 200-bpm tasks among novices. In addition, basketball players showed greater repeatability than did novices. These findings indicated a different dribbling technique of the upper limb between each group to adapt to each task. Our results suggested that basketball players adapted to the three different dribbling tempos, but novices did not adapt much to the types of tempo., 2016, 18, 35, 46, Research institution, 2016_バスケットボールのドリブルにおける上肢の動作分析_熟練度とテンポの違いに着目して.pdf, False
  • Refereed, Research Journal of Sport Science in Nara Women’s University, The motion characteristics of the forehand stroke on ball speed in tennis, Tanaka C; Ohtaka C; Fujiwara M, The present study investigated the motion characteristics of the forehand stroke on ball speed in tennis. Participants were asked to hit a stopped ball straight ahead. We set three conditions: preferred, slow, and fast. In the preferred condition, the participants were instructed to hit the ball at a speed that was easy for the participant. In the slow and fast conditions, participants were instructed to hit the ball at their slowest possible speed and their fastest possible speed, respectively. The motion of each forehand stroke was recorded using three high-speed cameras, and ground reaction forces on the feet were measured separately using two force plates. Regardless of individual proficiency, all participants hit the ball while performing translational motion to the direction of the stroke. High skilled participants also hit the ball while performing rotational motion, whereas low skilled participants did not. Our results suggested that high skilled participants adjusted to the ball speed by changing the angular velocity of the trunk and by utilizing the ground reaction forces with kicking in the direction opposite of the stroke., 2016, 18, 13, 24, Research institution
  • Refereed, Research Journal of Sport Science in Nara Women’s University, Practice about "expressive movements" in the practice of mat exercise for physical education in junior High school, Ohtaka C; Nakagawa M, 2016, 18, 79, 86, Research institution
  • Refereed, Japan Journal of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences, Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences, Effect of switching the control direction on force control using isometric leg extension, Ohtaka C; Fujiwara M, In this study, we investigated the effects of differing control processes on the duration of zero-velocity in force control and force level control accuracy and quickness using isometric leg contraction tasks. Eleven participants were instructed to adjust the target force from 20% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC: 20% task) or from 60%MVC (60% task) to 20%, 40%, or 60%MVC after relaxing completely. The participants were instructed to control their force as quickly and as accurately as possible on receiving a visual stimulus, and the force produced by the participants was recorded. We investigated the differences in the task (20% or 60%MVC) and target (20%, 40%, or 60%MVC) force levels. We found that the target force level in the 20% task was higher than during the other target force levels for both tasks. The duration of zero-velocity was longer during the 60% task than in the 20% task for all target force levels. Before and after the period of zero-velocity, relaxation and re-adjustment time were longer during the 60% task than during the 20% task for all target force levels. Furthermore, the re-adjustment time was longer in the 60% task than in the 20% task for all target force levels; re-adjustment time was also found increase successively for the 20%, 40% and 60% MVC target force levels. Therefore, our findings suggest that during control the slight magnitude, accurate control of the force was difficult, irrespective of the magnitude of the force before relaxing completely. Moreover, the duration of zero-velocity became longer with greater magnitudes of force before relaxing completely, which affected the quickness at which force control was achieved after switching the control direction.

  • Refereed, Annual Reports of Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences, Effects of control direction on the accuracy of force control, Ohtaka C, In this study, we investigated the effects of control direction on the control of theforce output level accurately and quickly through isometric leg contraction tasks. Ten subjectswere instructed to adjust the target force to 20% MVC (20% task) or 60% MVC (60% task). These tasks were performed under three conditions: a direct condition where the subjectcontrolled the force from 0% MVC, a changing condition where the subject controlled the forcefrom 20% MVC (small amount), and a changing condition where the subject controlled the forcefrom 60% MVC (large amount) after relaxing completely. Using visual stimulus, subjects wereinstructed to control their force output as quickly as and as accurately as possible. The forcesproduced by the subjects were recorded. Results show that for the 20% task, it was difficult toaccurately control the force under changing conditions as opposed to a discrete condition, whileconsecutive conditions exhibited greater force control velocity than the direct condition. Therefore, our findings suggest that when controlling the force before relaxing completely, accurate control of the force became more difficult with increasing force magnitude., 2015, 31, 115, 125

  • Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), 01 Apr. 2018, 31 Mar. 2022, 18H03166, Effects of central and peripheral fatigue on muscle output regulation and circulatory regulation during exercise in a hot environment, Shibasaki Manabu, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Nara Women's University, 17160000, 13200000, 3960000, We investigated the effects of central and peripheral fatigues on motor control and cardiovascular responses during exercise in a hot environment using electroencephalographic event-related potentials, near-infrared spectroscopy, and middle cerebral artery blood velocity. In addition, to investigate the motor skill with muscle fatigue, we examined the interlocking of upper and lower limbs movements. The results of hyperthermia-induced central fatigue showed that the mode of exercise is capable of modulating the central motor command. Also, the peripheral fatigue affects the output of the central motor command, which is brain activity. Finally, "how to relax" due to muscle fatigue was numerically presented., kaken
