  • Refereed, The relationship between continuous bilateral hop and basic exercise ability among young children, Continuous bilateral hop has been used to evaluate a person's agility by focusing on the movement time. In the present study, we examined the movement time as well as hopping pattern score on continuous bilateral hop, and investigated the relationship between continuous bilateral hop and basic motor ability (25-m sprint, tennis ball throwing and standing long jumping) among 131 young children aged 4 to 5 years. The movement time was significantly shorter in 5- than in 4-year-old children, but the hopping pattern score did not change with increasing age. The score was significantly higher in girls than in boys, while the movement time was significantly shorter in boys than in girls. Moreover, a significant correlation was observed between the movement time and basic motor ability (25-m sprint and standing long jumping), the score and basic motor ability (25-m sprint, tennis ball throwing and standing long jumping). These data suggest that continuous bilateral hop can be used as indexes for agility as well motor coordination in young children., 2020, 22, 1, 12, 21, Research institution

  • Refereed, Taiikugaku kenkyu (Japan Journal of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences), Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences, Effect of switching the control direction on force control using isometric leg extension, Otaka Chiaki; Fujiwara Motoko, In this study, we investigated the effects of differing control processes on the duration of zero-velocity in force control and force level control accuracy and quickness using isometric leg contraction tasks. Eleven participants were instructed to adjust the target force from 20% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC: 20% task) or from 60%MVC (60% task) to 20%, 40%, or 60%MVC after relaxing completely. The participants were instructed to control their force as quickly and as accurately as possible on receiving a visual stimulus, and the force produced by the participants was recorded. We investigated the differences in the task (20% or 60%MVC) and target (20%, 40%, or 60%MVC) force levels. We found that the target force level in the 20% task was higher than during the other target force levels for both tasks. The duration of zero-velocity was longer during the 60% task than in the 20% task for all target force levels. Before and after the period of zero-velocity, relaxation and re-adjustment time were longer during the 60% task than during the 20% task for all target force levels. Furthermore, the re-adjustment time was longer in the 60% task than in the 20% task for all target force levels; re-adjustment time was also found increase successively for the 20%, 40% and 60% MVC target force levels. Therefore, our findings suggest that during control the slight magnitude, accurate control of the force was difficult, irrespective of the magnitude of the force before relaxing completely. Moreover, the duration of zero-velocity became longer with greater magnitudes of force before relaxing completely, which affected the quickness at which force control was achieved after switching the control direction.

  • Refereed, JJSP, Japanese Society of Sport Psychology, Diversity of the Role of Positive Thinking According to Individual Characteristics:A Triaxial Analysis of Objects of Attention, Tsutsui Kaori; Fujiwara Motoko, This research clarified the concrete contents of positive thinking and explored how positive thinking differs according to individual characteristics. Levels of trait anxiety and concerns about evaluation from others and the coaching environment, were defined as individual characteristics. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) for measuring trait anxiety was administered to a university male baseball team. Subsequently, one baseball player with high trait anxiety and one baseball player with low trait anxiety were interviewed. Semi-structured interviews focused on their thoughts during their baseball games and their individual characteristics. Interview data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed qualitatively. Positive thinking was classified according to eight patterns associated with the objects of attention, on 3 axes (emotional expression, body consciousness, and external concern), and the relationship between individual characteristics and positive thinking was considered. Greater trait anxiety and concern about evaluation from others seemed to indicate that self-control thinking contributed to performance. In contrast, when trait anxiety and concern about evaluation from others was lower, self-encouragement thinking was more likely to contribute to performance., 2014, 41, 2, 115, 130, 個人特性によるポジティブシンキングの役割の多様性(スポーツ心理学研究 2014).pdf, False, 10.4146/jjspopsy.2014-1404

  • Refereed, Taiikugaku kenkyu (Japan Journal of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences), Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences, Muscle activity patterns during quick change in elbow extensions, Takatoku Nozomi; Fujiwara Motoko, In this study, we investigated a motor strategy for changing the amplitude or direction of movement during rapid extensions of the elbow joint. We focused on changes in the triphasic electromyographic (EMG) pattern, i.e. the first agonist burst (AG1), the second agonist burst (AG2) and the antagonist burst (ANT), in relation to changes in the amplitude and direction of movement required after the initiation of movement. Ten seated subjects extended the elbow 40 degrees in the Basic task and 80 degrees in the Wide task, and then returned to the starting position after reaching for a target in the Basic task (Return task). The tasks were performed under two conditions: while performing a predetermined task (SF condition), and while performing a task in response to a visual stimulus after movement commencement (ST-BW condition—the subject performed either the Basic task or the Wide task; ST-BR condition—the subject performed either the Basic task or the Return task). Kinematic and temporal parameters, and EMG activity from the agonist (triceps brachii) and the antagonist (biceps brachii) muscles were recorded. Comparing the Wide task with the Basic task, the onset latency of AG2 increased, and the duration in all bursts increased. In the ST-BW condition, the onset latency of AG1 and AG2 and the duration of AG1 increased compared with the SF condition. Comparing the Return task with the Basic task, the onset latency of ANT and AG2 increased. The duration of all bursts and the average EMG (a-EMG) of ANT in the Return task increased compared with the Basic task. There was no difference between the SF and ST-BR conditions. It is concluded that the motor strategy for changing the amplitude of initiated movement is to control the duration of AG1 depending on the amplitude of movement in order to change the timing to stop movement, and that the motor strategy for changing the direction of initiated movement is to increase the duration and amplitude of ANT in order to stop at the target and flex continuously., 2009, 54, 2, 293, 306, 10.5432/jjpehss.a540201

  • Muscle activity patterns during quick change of movement amplitude in rapid elbow flexions, ln this study, we investigated control of muscle activity for changing the amplitude of movement in rapid flexions at the elbow joint. This study focused on the changes in a triphasic electromyographic(EMG) pattern, i.e., the first agonist burst(AG1), the second agonist burst (AG2) and the antagonist burst (ANT), for increasing the amplitude of movement requires after the initiation of movement. Subjects performed 40 degree (Basic task) and 80 degree of flexion (Wide task). These tasks were performed under two conditions; performing a predetermined task (SF condition) and performing a task in response to a visual stimulus immediately after movement commencement (ST condition). Kinematic parameters (movement amplitude, movement velocity and movement time) and EMG activity (onset latency, duration and average EMG) from the agonist(biceps brachii) and the antagonist(triceps brachii) muscles were recorded. As a result, in both tasks, the onset latency of AG1, ANT and AG2 in the ST condition increased compared with those in the SF condition. In addition, the duration of ANT and AG2 and the a-EMG of AG2 increased in the ST condition. It is concluded that the control of muscle activity for changing the amplitude of movement in the ongoing movement was to control the onset and duration of ANT for changing the timing of stop movement and the duration and amplitude of AG2 for stopping the desired position accurately., 31 Mar. 2009, 11, 1, 11

両側同時条件では、左右肢で異なる目標%MVC(一側が30%で対側が10%MVF、またその逆)への筋出力減少を行った。指標として、発揮張力に加えて上腕二頭筋及び上腕三頭筋から筋電図を導出した。, kaken

In addition, to investigate the motor skill with muscle fatigue, we examined the interlocking of upper and lower limbs movements. The results of hyperthermia-induced central fatigue showed that the mode of exercise is capable of modulating the central motor command. Also, the peripheral fatigue affects the output of the central motor command, which is brain activity. Finally, "how to relax" due to muscle fatigue was numerically presented., kaken

, kaken

There is almost no knowledge concerning thermoregulatory "network" , which makes it difficult to link electrophysiological and pharmachological data directly with responses observed in whole animals. Present study was planed to develop a system which analyzes the network by simultaneously recording activities of many neurons from hypothalamic culture preparation. Neurons taken from the preoptic area of new-born rats (three days old) were dissociated and cultrured. Neurons survived for 7-10 days and at around day 7 long processes were observed. In ordere to make optical recordings from single cultured neurons, we tried to find out conditions for making the neurons generate action potentials. No spontaneous activity was observed not only at 37゚Cbut also in a wide temperature range of 34-42゚C.Application of glutamate (1 mM-0.1 M) or K+ (10-100 mM) also failed to generate action potentials. Signal to noise ratio of the plesently-available optical recording system requires voltage change of several tens mV.So without action potentials optical recordings can not be used for analyzing neuronal networks of the hypothalamus., kaken
  • Grant-in-Aid for General Scientific Research (B), 1992 - 1994, 04454143, Analysis of hypothalamic network for thermoregulation., KANOSUE Kazuyuki; FUJIWARA Motoko, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Osaka University, 6700000, 6700000, The body temperature is controlled by the central nervous system including the hypothalamus. There is almost no knowledge of thermoregulatory "network" , which makes it difficult to link electrophysiological and pharmachological data directly with thermoregulatory responses observed in whole animals. Present study was pland to answer this question. First, to examine how the control of shivering is shared between the brain's right and left sides, ketamine anesthetized rats had been implanted thermodes on both sides of the preoptic area and received unilateral transection of the hypothalamus just caudal to the anterior hypothalamus, which severed fibers running rosto-caudal diretion. Unilateral preoptic warming on the intact side produced bilateral suppression of cold-induced shivering without predominance of either side of the body but warming on the transected side had no effect on shivering. Therefore, no information seems to be exchanged between the left and right preoptic aera for control of shivering. When a partial transection covered the lateral part of the hypothalamus (the medial forebrain bundle), the transection had the same effect as did unilateral transections of the whole hyporhalamus. Efferent signals for shivering, thus, descend through the medial forebrain bundle. In the second experiment, skin vasodilation occurs bilaterally during unilateral thermal or electrical stimulation of the preoptic area (Kanosue et al., 1991). In rats which had received similar unilateral transection of the hypothalamus as in the shivering experiment, unilateral preoptic warming not only on the intact side but also on the transected side produced bilateral vasodilation on the hind paw. Therefore, information coutrolling thermoregulatory vasomotion--unlike that controlling shivering--crosses the midline within the preoptic area. Efferent fibers for vasomotor control seem to decend through the medial forebrain bundle., kaken

  • Grant-in-Aid for General Scientific Research (C), 1990 - 1991, 02670066, Functional conections between right & left hypothalamus in thermcregulation., KANOSUE Kazuyuki; FUJISAWAR Motoko, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Osaka Univerisity, 2300000, 2300000, The present study explored the laterality of central nervous thermoregulatory control in anesthetized rats by measuring paw skin vasomotor activity and cold-induced shivering in hind leg muscles during unilateral POAH warming and electrical stimulation or during unilateral thermal stimulation of abdominal skin. Unilateral POAH warming produced vasodilation on both sides of the body, but vasodilation on the ipsilateral side always either occurred at a lower threshold hypothalamic temperature or was stronger than on the contralateral side. In a cold environment(5゚C), shivering was suppressed simultaneously in both hind legs when one side of the POAH was warmed, and shivering reappeared simultaneously on both sides when POAH warming stopped. These results suggest that different thermoregtilarory effectors are regulated in a different way by each side of the POAH. In the next series of experiments, the possibility of direct exchange of thermoregulatory control information between the left and right sides of the preoptic area and anterior hypothalamus(POAH)was tested by extracellularly recording single unit activity in the POAH of urethane-anaesthetized rats during local temperature changes and electrical stimulation of the contralateral POAH. Twenty-four of 123 neurons were facilitated and 20 inhibited by contralateral stimulation ; none were antidromically activated. Twenty-seven of the 82 of these neurons tested for thermosensitivity were warm-sensitive, and 20 were cold-sensitive : a neuron's thermosensitivity was not significantly correlated with its response to contralateral stimulation. The highest incidence of response to contralateral stimulation(60%)was found when stimulation and recording sites were both in the anterior half of the POAH. These responses were absent after midsagittal transection of the anterior commissure and its rostral area. These results indicate plentiful and predominantly polysynaptic connections between the right and left sides of the anterior POAH., kaken
